There has been a lot of media about African American woman. The media has noted that successful black woman are not getting married as much as their white counterparts.  Instead of chucking up to the fact that there just aren’t as many black men on top anymore they are saying that Black woman are angry, we are difficult and picky when it comes to our choices in black men.

Not only the media but the men are co-signing and adding everything else to the list of complaints concerning us black woman. No matter what they say, I’m convinced that there are good black men out there for us to marry if thats what you desire. I’m confident that there are plenty of black women who are very secure, educated, and still very humble.

I saw an article on Sistah Toldja’s Site and I got an idea from her Happy Black Girl Day Post

>>>>Happy Black Girl Day! <<<<

“No talk of who doesn’t want us or what we can’t have because we’re Black. Just happy Black woman stuff. Tweet it, blog it, text it, call your friends and tell them all about it. Kiss a Black girl today, love a Black girl today. It’s our day to be HAPPY!”

So what did I do? I designed a shirt to celebrate my Happniess, Blackness, and Womaness (sic)

Here is what I came up with.

I love the shirt, its a bit tight, just a little motivation for me to hit my Turbo Jam DVD’s.

So here is to all the Happy Black Woman and the people who love them.

Peace.

If you are interested in purchasing one I will provide the information.

Thanks for Capital Customs in Arlington VA for helping my design see the light of day.

Double Standards Amaze me. Especially when people treat you totally different from a friend who is looks drastically different. As much confidence as I have in myself I still notice way more then I should. I’m so tired of being judged because I’m a bigger woman. My friends tell me that I’m ‘not that big’ which is fine with me. It just upsets me when people are openly treating me and my friend (whoever I’m with at the time) totally different because they like to judge a book by its cover.

I’m done ranting. I can honestly say that I now know what some bigger people mean when they say they are treated differently. It didn’t hit me until yesterday while having a conversation with my Bestie over Dinner. She had no clue, and it wasn’t her fault. I hate to say that I would love to walk out the door with a smaller friend and just not be judged…to be respected right then and there, and ever when I’m not there.

You know what bothers me? As a young African American…who was just as ignorant and clueless to world around me, as I grow older and become a little wiser people and their range of mind bother me.  Now I know its not your fault sometimes, but at some point you have to wonder are you really thinking things through like a mature adult.  It took me having a covnersation more so debate with someone, and they bombed me out…why because I had no idea what the hell they were talking about and my argument was short answered…and didn’t make sense.

This isn’t to say that I’m bitter or angry about it, that I’m stressing about it or anything.  This is just a huge pet peeve of mine.  I get on twitter, and I see someone upset about “NBC Supposedly serving” a couple of well-known foods in the African-American Culture in their café in honor of Black History Month.

Damn Sure won't find this at June Cleavers House...

Not going to find this at Mrs.Cleavers...

Now…thats just one small part of the issue. The bigger issue to me is how gullible people are. How young black americans sometimes seem to never have a decent thought when it comes to race issues here in America. I also realize how gullible people are on blogs. Bloggers and Journalist have a way of making a headline suck you in without in thinking on a rational level.  I love Bossip with the trashiness that it is, and I mean that in a good way. I often watch how the fans comment on things, because they did no research and trust that the writers are telling the truth to the story. Truth is they are really good at putting hidden Racially charged message in the topic to get people to bring out their inner most ignorance.

I don’t know why I posted that picture…it just cracks me up. Anyway my point is this. After going some digging about the issue with NBC, I found out a couple of things.

1. The Chef was African-American.

2. She asked personally if she could so something special for Black History Month once a week. Meaning she created the menu

3. This was done last year and everybody there seemed to enjoy it.

4. QuestLove is always posting shit without explanations.

5. Black people are in serious denial that Soul Food is a staple and widely known symbol of the African-American Culture.

In the video the chef seems a little confused about why people are upset over this. She makes it a point to mention that she loves these foods, and while it’s not something that eaten everyday, it is a part of who she is as an African-American woman.

The chef, Leslie Calhoun — who is black — said she has tried to begin a special Black History Month menu for years and was allowed to do so for the first time this year. She said doesn’t understand the controversy.

“I don’t understand at all,” she told NBC partner site TheGrio. “It’s not trying to offend anybody and it’s not trying to suggest that that’s all that African-Americans eat. It’s just a good meal. I thought it would go over well.”   – Huffington Post

Now I’m clearly aware of the Stereotypes of African-Americans. How they portrayed up in the Media long ago.  I would love for somebody to deny that when you think of Soul Food you think of Fried Chicken. I would love somebody to really mean it and say ” Soul Food isn’t widely viewed as an African American thing”. Wake up people everything in the world can’t be explained but your a damn liar if you think that everything said about African Americans aren’t true. Why is that you think everything is a negative? Whats wrong with us having Soul Food under out belt? You think Mexicans are ashamed of Tacos? I know they are ashamed of Gorditas…but thats another story.   Are you are ashamed???

You don’t want Whites to think that you eat it everyday, maybe thats it… I’m pretty sure your diet of McDonald’s Dollar Menu is so much better than Delicious Soul Food…  The point is everything is this world isn’t racist.  People know damn well that Blacks don’t eat friend chicken everyday. Lets just do a taste test on the Southern Fried Version of KFC and the Home Gooness of my Cousin Anna Lees Soul Food Friend Chicken God Rest her soul…. End of effing Story.

The next time you see something that you think is racist or serious take some time to google that shit and stop feeding into ignorance. While there are tons of racist people in the world at some point we have to think deeply and evauluate what is and what isn’t.   You have to deeply evualate the many relms of African American culture and stop putting so much effort into being angry about what is , and what isn’t.  You should actually be proud and start building up a Destictive Culture of the African American Man. There is nothing wrong with it okay. Embrace it, and add to it.

God forbid the cafe served something Chinese for the upcoming Chinese New Year, or some Caribbean Flare for Labor Day Carnival. Weather you want to believe it or not African-American culture should be celebrated, and can be embraced and respected by others. How many of you went out on St. Patrick’s day? Or Celebrated Mardi Gras?  I wonder if I’m trailing off? Probably so…but I’m sick of the ignorance.

This is the infamous Picture that started it all… Thanks Questlove you shit starter. Black Thought if my Favorite anyway… *snicker*

A friend of mine posted this same article from the Huffington and when I asked her whats racist about a black cook wanting to carry out a widely celebrated and dish that was adopted by African-Americans. She said…” It just seems racist …sorry to say” . There is no need to say sorry, but is reason to actually have a valid argument on why something should be deemed racist. She them came back and said well I guess I was taken back by the title, and I just thought that NBC was trying to be funny… Still have nothing to do with being racist. I think that if NBC actually came down and said ” Lets give the Black Folks what they want…cornbeard” then that would be a cause for issue. NBC owner had nothing to do with it.  You have to do some research next time.

Hey Listen I know my Stance on this already, but I invite Smart, Intelligent people to give me their 2 cents. I urge you to stop pass and read the article and watch the video before you post though.

Today I was confronted by someone who is by nature suppose to support me in every way. Someone who is suppose to guide me. At this very moment I liberated myself…no longer will I ever look to anybody for support,  as a guide in life. Never will I think to myself I wish I had someone to support me.  It’s a blessing if you have that genuinely  in your life, but for those of us who don’t…keep your head up, and never give up. We are a special breed who will always have to adjust to the “me, myself and I” theory. Even if it isn’t what we want…that’s just the way it is .  It hurts to admit this, and it hurts to know that I realized it before I let this persons actions eat me up inside.  Some people can never let you be happy because they aren’t happy. Some  will bring you down, because they want company at the bottom.  You have to stay strong, and know that it will be over soon.

Those of you reading I will be fine, because I’m telling myself that this will all pass. Those of you who feel me, and know what i’m experiencing, maybe you are too. Keep your head up.  Sometimes they don’t know any better.

Tell what you think of this KFC Commerical. It is actually meant for those in the West Indies.  The video shows a Cricket player surrounded by Black West Indian fans, he seems uncomfortable and akward, then I guess to break the wierdness he offers the Fans KFC.

Read the Artlcle below.  That goes with the video.

A KFC advertisement that shows an Australian cricket supporter giving fried chicken to West Indies fans has caused outrage in the US, where it has been interpreted as racist.

In the ad, part of KFC’s “Cricket Survival Guide” series, Mick the Australian is surrounded by dancing West Indies fans, and says: “Need a tip when you’re stuck in an awkward situation?”

He then hands out a bucket of KFC to the crowd — an action which has been seen as supporting a long-standing US stereotype that African Americans eat fried chicken.

A statement from KFC Australia this morning confirmed the company was aware the ad had been “misinterpreted by a segment of people in the US”.

“It is a light-hearted reference to the West Indian cricket team,” the statement read.

“The ad was reproduced online in the US without KFC’s permission, where we are told a culturally-based stereotype exists, leading to the incorrect assertion of racism.

“We unequivocally condemn discrimination of any type and have a proud history as one of the world’s leading employers for diversity.”

In the US bloggers and journalists have claimed the ad is deliberately racist, with the Baltimore Sun even suggesting the ad might be part of a viral prank.

Popular viral media website Buzzfeed posted the video with the subtitle: “What’s a white guy to do when he awkwardly finds himself in a crowd full of black folks? KFC has the answer.”

Dr Brendon O’Connor, an associate professor at the University of Sydney, said reaction to the ad reflected the “insularity” of the American people.

“They have a tendency to think that their history is more important than that of other countries,” he told ninemsn.

But Dr O’Connor, who is currently writing a book about US stereotypes, also said it was important to realise that when taken out of context the ads could look racist.

“Fried chicken is seen as a traditional southern food … a staple of an African American diet,” he said.

“We don’t have many African American people here and we don’t have these stereotypes.

“Americans would find the ads racist mostly because they don’t realise the context that the West Indies team was here to play cricket.”

Dr Peter Gale, a senior lecturer at the University of South Australia, said the ad could affect Australia’s reputation internationally — especially in the wake of the Hey Hey It’s Saturday blackface scandal

“Even when we’re doing advertising we need to be careful about pre-existing historical stereotypes,” Dr Gale said.

“We have got a responsibility to be aware of that, and I think that if the media doesn’t wise up we’re in a lot of trouble.”

Side Note-  As someone who identfies with West Indians in In the West Indies there is no stereotype of Blacks and fried chicken. I do agree with the comment of us feeling like our struggle is the worst struggle ever and any other race that has been oppressed isn’t important.  “They have a tendency to think that their history is more important than that of other countries,” That is true to a large extent.  Even growing up in DC, and having a southern grandmother eating fried chicken wasn’t something that was shameful, when we did have it, we enjoyed it.

I guess what i’m not understanding is why do blacks have a love hate thing with Fried Chicken? Why is that because a white person points out that we love our soul food all of sudden we have to get so damn defensive and call it racist.  Now In the video I will admit that it would have been nice to see them have some sprinkles of other races in the video. Not all of the West Indies is covered with Blacks. We have Asian, Indian, everything. They are all fans of cricket also. My question also is if this was a mcDonalds commerical and the man started handing out Cheeseburgers or Chicken Nuggets would it still have been racist?  At some point Blacks have to move on and focus on excelling because this stereotype isn’t even anything that connects and offends West Indians like it does over here in the states.

Seeing that there are no African Americans  in the commerical we have to stop thinking that in every country Blacks think the way that we do. Racism to me in the eye of the beholder. I personally am not one to call everything that i dont agree with regarding Whites racist.  Probably because I’m to busy working hard to be something in life. I don’t have time to have conspiracy theories running through my head, when I know a white person isn’t thinking twice about me, or any person for that matter.

Maybe it would be better if he handed out Rotis…with KFC CHicken in it… IDK. Don’t take me too seriously. I just find this whole mess funny. The commerical on another level doesn’t even make sense to me.  Where did he get a bucket of Fried Chicken…I know they don’t let you bring outside food in the stadiums.

For those who aren’t looking closely he looks ackward because he is clearly cheering for another team and people take Cricket just as seriously as we do football and Basketball. So he looks scared if anything because he surrounded by fans of the other team.

I’m sure Jerk Chicken taste better then Kentucky Fried Chicken in the West Indies…

Done…

When I saw this I just about died.  I actually hoped that if i followed my work out regimen i could dress like this for Halloween. haha.  Then I saw this dang on video, and this girl tripped me the hell out. I think it might have been the music in the background

I saw a stream of status’ on twitter about every bodies New Year Resolutions. I couldn’t help but laugh at some of the ridiculous but serious promises that some were making to not only themselves, but more so towards others. I know that I tend to be a bit serious about some things, but it’s only because I think the first thing you say it the truth, and when you don’t type LOL after things like that. I tend to believe that you are serious about what you type.

I saw a couple of tweets regarding having materialistic things. Now I know I’m way to into fashion, more then a lot of people from my neck of the woods.  I can’t agree that that having a closet full of name-branded items would make me feel like I’m having a better year then last.  Eventually it sounds like you are just trying to impress others when it comes to “dressing better”. W I need help understanding is how is that going to make your year better then last?

When i think of resolutions i think of a gradual change to aim for positive things in life.  An example would be that ” I’m not going to let people use me” …thats something aiming towards something positive, or taking up a yoga class to relieve stress. Even at 23, I’m not that materialistic, or into having the newest shiniest trend. Maybe thats it…I’m not into trends. I’m not into Jordan’s, or Video Games, or buying silly ass 100.00 shirts with random ass silly drawings on them. I’m all about staple pieces, quality over quanity,  Investing, and having the security of having dough in the bank for an emergency. I know it sounds crazy, but i’m that girl that would constantly think about the money i spent on a pair of shoes, or coat that i could have paid a bill with.

I remember dating a guy who said that his new years resolution was to “be the flyest nigga” in D.C.  All he strived to do was move out of his mothers basement, move into an apartment, and have parties there. I remember him saying that he wanted to be the freshest dude in D.C. and that he was gonna work hard to buy better clothes, and get rims on his bucket ass car.  He had a child, but he never mentioned that he wanted to provide a better life for his child. To make a little more money to start a college fund, to have more space for his son to move around.  All he could think about was partying. Whats wrong with this picture. I will tell you whats wrong…in my opionon. This man is too busy trying to impress materialistic artificial friends. To have them in his home based on what he has, whats in his closet, and how much shit they can eat and drink from his house. So at the end of that year all he would have is a carpet stained apartment, and the only thing to his name would be 2000.00 rims on his 800 dollar car.

This story leads to my point of just do you in 2010. If your resolutions hit off of you trying to impress others, then you need to re-evaluate yourself.  At the end of the day, the people who you are trying to impress only come around to use you.  Now if it makes your feel better to walk around in more expensive swag then last year then more power to you, but shouldn’t we be able to walk with the same confidence as you would with a lower costing shirt, and jeans. Is it that serious?

Perhaps I am too serious about this. We are young right?  At the same time, all I think about is dollar signs. Having money for a rainy day if something were to happen. Living from paycheck to paycheck like so many others in the U.S.  Those examples I made where of real life people, who had nothing to their name. no credit, owned nothing. Understandable that some of them have the means to do this, but I know that a lot don’t.  I guess I’m too greedy to keep my money in the bank then to wear it on my back.

I welcome you to give you opinion…but I urge you to see where i’m coming from. Realize that I’m not generalizing everybody who has these sort of dreams. To each its own, but I just do agree. Yes I’m aware that people can make their own resolutions, but I just don’t get why they are aimed at impressing others.

Man…I don’t know what the hell Ms. Minaj is thinking with these iffy wigs. She needs to holla at whoever is making Beyonce’s wigs.

Who is sicing her up to let her walk out the house with these damn wig on. The point of a lace front is appear to be your hair.

I normally don’t post silly things like this, but every now and then I have a hug your children moment, and this is one of them. This girl really needs to sit down, she is thirsty for some attention her new name should be “sahara”. I know she is suppose to be “mentally” ill but somebody who loves her, needs to stop this girl.
