You know what bothers me? As a young African American…who was just as ignorant and clueless to world around me, as I grow older and become a little wiser people and their range of mind bother me.  Now I know its not your fault sometimes, but at some point you have to wonder are you really thinking things through like a mature adult.  It took me having a covnersation more so debate with someone, and they bombed me out…why because I had no idea what the hell they were talking about and my argument was short answered…and didn’t make sense.

This isn’t to say that I’m bitter or angry about it, that I’m stressing about it or anything.  This is just a huge pet peeve of mine.  I get on twitter, and I see someone upset about “NBC Supposedly serving” a couple of well-known foods in the African-American Culture in their café in honor of Black History Month.

Damn Sure won't find this at June Cleavers House...

Not going to find this at Mrs.Cleavers...

Now…thats just one small part of the issue. The bigger issue to me is how gullible people are. How young black americans sometimes seem to never have a decent thought when it comes to race issues here in America. I also realize how gullible people are on blogs. Bloggers and Journalist have a way of making a headline suck you in without in thinking on a rational level.  I love Bossip with the trashiness that it is, and I mean that in a good way. I often watch how the fans comment on things, because they did no research and trust that the writers are telling the truth to the story. Truth is they are really good at putting hidden Racially charged message in the topic to get people to bring out their inner most ignorance.

I don’t know why I posted that picture…it just cracks me up. Anyway my point is this. After going some digging about the issue with NBC, I found out a couple of things.

1. The Chef was African-American.

2. She asked personally if she could so something special for Black History Month once a week. Meaning she created the menu

3. This was done last year and everybody there seemed to enjoy it.

4. QuestLove is always posting shit without explanations.

5. Black people are in serious denial that Soul Food is a staple and widely known symbol of the African-American Culture.

In the video the chef seems a little confused about why people are upset over this. She makes it a point to mention that she loves these foods, and while it’s not something that eaten everyday, it is a part of who she is as an African-American woman.

The chef, Leslie Calhoun — who is black — said she has tried to begin a special Black History Month menu for years and was allowed to do so for the first time this year. She said doesn’t understand the controversy.

“I don’t understand at all,” she told NBC partner site TheGrio. “It’s not trying to offend anybody and it’s not trying to suggest that that’s all that African-Americans eat. It’s just a good meal. I thought it would go over well.”   – Huffington Post

Now I’m clearly aware of the Stereotypes of African-Americans. How they portrayed up in the Media long ago.  I would love for somebody to deny that when you think of Soul Food you think of Fried Chicken. I would love somebody to really mean it and say ” Soul Food isn’t widely viewed as an African American thing”. Wake up people everything in the world can’t be explained but your a damn liar if you think that everything said about African Americans aren’t true. Why is that you think everything is a negative? Whats wrong with us having Soul Food under out belt? You think Mexicans are ashamed of Tacos? I know they are ashamed of Gorditas…but thats another story.   Are you are ashamed???

You don’t want Whites to think that you eat it everyday, maybe thats it… I’m pretty sure your diet of McDonald’s Dollar Menu is so much better than Delicious Soul Food…  The point is everything is this world isn’t racist.  People know damn well that Blacks don’t eat friend chicken everyday. Lets just do a taste test on the Southern Fried Version of KFC and the Home Gooness of my Cousin Anna Lees Soul Food Friend Chicken God Rest her soul…. End of effing Story.

The next time you see something that you think is racist or serious take some time to google that shit and stop feeding into ignorance. While there are tons of racist people in the world at some point we have to think deeply and evauluate what is and what isn’t.   You have to deeply evualate the many relms of African American culture and stop putting so much effort into being angry about what is , and what isn’t.  You should actually be proud and start building up a Destictive Culture of the African American Man. There is nothing wrong with it okay. Embrace it, and add to it.

God forbid the cafe served something Chinese for the upcoming Chinese New Year, or some Caribbean Flare for Labor Day Carnival. Weather you want to believe it or not African-American culture should be celebrated, and can be embraced and respected by others. How many of you went out on St. Patrick’s day? Or Celebrated Mardi Gras?  I wonder if I’m trailing off? Probably so…but I’m sick of the ignorance.

This is the infamous Picture that started it all… Thanks Questlove you shit starter. Black Thought if my Favorite anyway… *snicker*

A friend of mine posted this same article from the Huffington and when I asked her whats racist about a black cook wanting to carry out a widely celebrated and dish that was adopted by African-Americans. She said…” It just seems racist …sorry to say” . There is no need to say sorry, but is reason to actually have a valid argument on why something should be deemed racist. She them came back and said well I guess I was taken back by the title, and I just thought that NBC was trying to be funny… Still have nothing to do with being racist. I think that if NBC actually came down and said ” Lets give the Black Folks what they want…cornbeard” then that would be a cause for issue. NBC owner had nothing to do with it.  You have to do some research next time.

Hey Listen I know my Stance on this already, but I invite Smart, Intelligent people to give me their 2 cents. I urge you to stop pass and read the article and watch the video before you post though.
